Korean BBQ — Paris

Korean barbecue is cooked at the table, on a grill set into it, and the meat arrives raw. You cook it yourself, cut it with scissors, and wrap each piece in a lettuce leaf with grilled garlic, a dab of ssamjang and a little kimchi. It is a long meal, built for sharing, and it usually ends with cold noodles or a stew rather than dessert. Paris has had Korean grill houses for decades, first clustered near the Opéra and later spreading across the city. Three things are worth checking before you book: whether the tables have real extraction hoods, whether there is a lunch set, and what time the grills stop, since table cooking usually closes earlier than the kitchen. Come with company — the menu assumes it, and so do the portions.
